Remember when cut scenes were the short treat that you had to earn in a Final Fantasy title after long battles and rampant game play/exploration? Now you’d be hard pressed to find any game play whatsoever.

I just watch some Youtube videos of the game and the battle and it is absolutely impossible to try to follow the action and do anything. It’s worse than the Tales games; at least with the Tales game; you have some control and you can follow the action somewhat enough. I cannot see anyone; even a RPG guy like me try to even play this game. I mean; every boss battle seems to take ten minutes to finish (Legend of Dragoon all over again) and half of them have cut scenes that are absurd.
Even worse: The final boss is a clock piece with a face. Seriously. So the cut scenes are actually A BLESSING since the game itself is impossiabily redonkulus. Oh; and the payoff for beating the game: An ten minute ending which is shorter than Final Fantasy VI’s ending. At least in FFVI; the cut scenes came at the end and were great because I beat Kefka and therefore the game was finished and I could enjoy the payoff. Here; the payoff is flat and they wasted their injection six shooter on cut scenes DURING the game that they ran out for the ending.
And people wonder why Final Fantasy XIII is on it’s way to being the lowest selling game since Final Fantasy IV? Yeap; what a fall from grace. Funny how Final Fantasy X seems to look so gamey now (and even that game was too bloated for me.)
Tales’ Linear Action Battle System was at least fun to play. It’s the only decent thing the series has going for it, with all the anime cliches and poorly written and overused plots. Anyway, the point I’m trying to make is that Tales games are at least fun to play, unlike modern Final Fantasy games.
I may sound elitist here, but I don’t consider Final Fantasy games these days as role-playing games. Hell, I’m hard pressed to consider them games worthy of still using the brand name. It sickens me that FF13 is selling so well, yet Lost Odyssey (which is flawed, but superior) can’t even break a million.
Final Fantasy XIII is struggling in sales actually; and I think only the brand name is propping itself up. FF 13 is the worst selling Final Fantasy game in Japan since Final Fantasy V (and maybe even IV). SquareEnix is literally hoping for America gamers to buy this game now. Lost Odyssey just doesn’t have the brand name to compete with SE anyway.
Oh; to Jack: This is hilarious; now SquareEnix is claiming that half of the game was removed before they went into final production:

Game volume and overall game balance? Somehow; the Dora base sounds like; I don’t know: Actual Gameplay?! Ditto for the park.
it’s like a knee-jerk reaction to all the hate for FF12. It sounds like the anti-FF12.
And I really liked 12. Like, a whole lot.
So no 13 for me, it seems.
