Huh: my Wii hasn’t gathered dust for any of the years it’s been available–I guess the boys at Destructoid just can’t let a day go by w/o a cheap shot, eh?
Yeah. The dust meme went away a while ago, so it’s too bad they revisit it here, but I think the reference was more for their in-a-bubble audience than any kind of acknowledgement of true events.
Run Line 10 had the best counter for the meme:
“You bought a Wii just to threaten it! And take pictures of the dust collecting on the Wii!”
Hilarious considering that the people who buy the meme think video gaming is a way of living rather than something people do to amuse themselves.
I never understood the meme. Logically speaking, all systems gather dust at the same rate, since it’s not like you’re physically moving more ‘active’ consoles around.
Destructoid has one thing right though – it’s shaping up that the Wii has more niche/core games hitting this year than 360/PS3. Those two will continue to get the niche/core multi-million-dollar-produced pap, but I think anything outside those are looking to the Wii for greener pastures.
Didn’t you know? Xbox 360 and PS3 vigorously shake while people play them, and that keeps them dust free.
I agree though. Further irony: The PS3 is literally the dustiest system, due to whatever shiny coating they used on the plastic.
@herogear: The context is that the hardcore complain that there are no games on Wii despite all the evidence to the contrary. It’s basically one of two things: They didn’t buy a Wii at all; or they brought a Wii to prove their hyper-theories from the forums. Thus; the infamous Run Line 10 quote. I think Brian “Japanese Sock Puppet” C. from Kotaku started the meme by acting like a piss ant on a commentator about new gamers upstreaming from Wii Sports to other more traditional genre games (using the values from the games like Wii Sports).
I also made a comment about Brian C’s conduct in that everything he hears the word casual or even new gamer; he thinks retard in the same context as bigots who when they hear the word gay or homosexual; they automatically think butt sex before any argument enters their minds. It would be hilarious if it wasn’t so disgusting.
