I wonder how many times Donkey Kong will take a break from busting baddies in Donkey Kong Country Returns to flashback to his childhood and talk about his daddy issues in hammy, poorly voice-acted cutscenes?
Samus, any thoughts on that?

Just once: Donkey Kong Country the animated series from Nelvana back in the mid 1990′s. That show sucked too. The scariest part is that Metroid Prime: Another M might have been done slightly better than Donkey Kong Country The Animated Series did. Because Donkey Kong actually SPEAKS!
Did Donkey Kong ever speak in the Saturday Supercade Cartoons in the mid 1980′s? I’m not in the mood to check.
you know…there’s a way to make that work. As long as it’s done comedically.
You’re right Kevin. Comedically! Just like they did in Other M.
I thought I was going to get some exposition from DK once back in his original game.
He was tossing some barrels at JumpMan when he paused for a minute and looked directly at me.
He didn’t say anything so I pulled the cartridge out, blowed on it, and stuck it back in.
The barrels started flying again. Everything was fine.
I will always remember our (almost) connection.
No no no. Diddy’s the one with the father issues. Donkey Kong has paternal instincts.
Why do I always have to explain everything… :P

Really? Explain Cranky Kong then? HEE HEE! If I had to put up with Cranky whizzing on my legs about the old days; I would have daddy issues too.
You a game with a good story? Guilty Party on Wii.
Not because of the story – it’s pretty much useless and in the back (like it should be) and just there to adhere to the gameplay (which is pretty fun).
It’s from the characterization. Some of the things that happen in it are hillarious because the characters are well acted, well designed, and over-all are charming. If you MUST have “characterization” in a game, let it be done WELL, or don’t do it at all. Moreover, don’t make it the sticking point of the entire damn game.
And making it funny kinda helps!
(OH! Counterpoint!!! Sam & Max, try as I might, is a boring “funny” game. Something about the joke delivery sucks, even if the acting is well done. Most importantly, it doesn’t help gloss over the fact that the gameplay is innane and tedious!)
