If the GotY is not Donkey Kong Country Returns, and it is, say, Black Ops or something, the industry has all but confirmed it is happy being the adolescent boys club it’s been for the past decade, and will never change.
That’s fine, and obviously very lucrative for certain titles and developers, but you know what they say about things that refuse to change…
All I have to do to remind myself that our industry is stuck in a 14 male mentality is look at the Video Game Awards on Spike.
We might tease ourselves every now and then with moments of maturity and then follow it up with copious amounts of caffeine, wet dreams and something extreme.
@Jim Webb: And seeing VGA on Spike before; you can tell the mature level of the industry when they have complete immunity to the fact that the A-list celebrities are laughing AT them and not WITH them right on the show for everyone to see. Basically; I blew off VGA when Sarah Silverman basically told anyone under 14 to go kill themselves. I mean; who needs Jack Thompson when you got Sarah Silverman doing the job for HIM?
Donkey Kong Returns or Kirby’s Epic Yarn should be game of the year. Hell; even dare I say Metroid Other M is still better than Call of Duty: Black Ops. Scary huh Jack?
@Gregory: I wouldn’t go that far. Metroid Other M is simply a bad game, all around. At least Black Ops knows what it is and does it well. Metroid Other M is a pretender, trying to do several things at once and none of them well.
I was thinking about this yesterday when I saw the credits roll. I’m a little disappointed by the game, but what other game even comes close to being as good?
