One of the criticisms leveled at Square Enix as of late is their games no longer appeal to a Western audience. So they’re opening a studio in Canada.
Uh, problem solved?

Didn’t they also do this with an LA office, the US studio back in the 90s (that made Secret of Evermore and that was it?), and all sorts of ill-aimed purchases (Crystal Dynamics, Eidos, etc)?
Or how about Last Exile, their “western” RPG (that was just SaGa with blood – I actually like it though) that thought “man, all we need is overt violence and some badass, gruff looking dude and there! Western!”
I think they keep missing the point. Moreso than they know. One, they don’t get what ‘western’ development is and do this weird, pandering, shell of a mirror image to the real deal. Two, they don’t need to! A good game is a good game. Regional “flavor” has zero to do with it.
