Should the game of the year be a title that entertains and enamors the most people?

Software
Would love to see how the three console’s motion sensing software titles did over the big holiday sales period.
Were there any? I don’t seem to remember anyone talking about Kinect Sports or anything on PlayStation Move. Or the Wii, for that matter.
Perhaps everyone was too busy using their iPads and Kindles 3′s?
Soulless
Zynga. Nothing more needs to be said, no?
Prohibition
Part of me agrees with the Supreme Court that banning violent video games would have been another (disastrous) Prohibition for this country, but another part of me wonders if the industry would have benefited from such a ban, seeing as it would have forced them to create some original, thought-provoking games for once.

Boys club
Gaming cannot change for the better so long as the gatekeepers and atmosphere are the same as they’ve been since the beginning.
You want to be taken seriously, gamers and developers? Interactive movies and sweeping cliched storytelling aren’t the answer.
Mass time sink
Mass Effect 2. Good game that suffered toward the end due to predictable, repeating level design. Good, but not great. Mostly enjoyable. Don’t tell the four guys who played it 24 times through. There may be violence.
It’s Brawl
Reader Jonath makes an astute observation: Which game has better cutscenes—Super Smash Bros. Brawl or Metroid Other M?
And remember, Smash Bros. Brawl really doesn’t any voice acting to speak of, pun intended.
