Managing expectations

August 30th, 2010

Sony, positively brimming with confidence over the looming Move launch:

“Am I expecting a massive day one? Not particularly. We didn’t with EyeToy, either. It went on to be massively successful.”

Remember when Nintendo said the exact same thing about the Wii? And when the hell did EyeToy become “massively successful?!”

Doorstop

August 22nd, 2010

Sony: “The PSP has life in it yet”

Aside: Anyone else remember “Baghdad Bob?”

Lock in

August 12th, 2010

Portable gaming, now with more cellphone contract!

Sacked

August 5th, 2010

The original was just fine, but every time I see “exciting” new media for LittleBigPlanet 2 I keep thinking of how the first one was supposed topple the Wii and bury Nintendo forever.

Obvious

August 5th, 2010

Sony’s EyeToy creator talks about the “limitations” of controller-free technology like Kinect without actually saying Kinect.

Gee, I wonder what he has to say about it?

Salesmen

August 5th, 2010

Call me a pessimist all you want (nothing new), but every time someone says there’s going to be a “Mac gaming renaissance” I always think of the Linux desktop.

Doom and gloom

July 29th, 2010

Nintendo posts a quarterly loss. Surely, all major executives will be fired by this evening.

Timing

July 20th, 2010

So analysts are pretty excited about Kinect’s $150 pricing, huh? I guess for some reason the time is just “right” for a peripheral like this, whereas in 2006, when they were all dooming Nintendo to oblivion, it wasn’t? Weird.

Failure

July 13th, 2010

When you have to tell people to go to the eye doctor before playing your industry revolutionizing product, it has already failed.

Spin

May 26th, 2010

If “sales exploded and haven’t really slowed down since” the PS3 Slim was released, I’d hate to see what it looks like when sales are “not doing well.”
